Play Therapy

Why Play Therapy?

Children talk through play, through story and through their senses. Since Children’s language is non verbal, play can show and tell the story for them. Toys and art become their words. Working through play with a safe, compassionate therapist, children can learn to understand themselves, heal trauma and communicate well with others.  My advanced and specialized child therapy training is adapted to suit each child's unique developmental stage, personality and circumstances ranging from anxiety to trauma and everything in between.  Within the context of play therapy, I use modalities of Theraplay, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Sandtray, puppets, EMDR, and expressive art.

I work with children age 6 and up. For concerns with children under the age of 6 I work with the parents or with the parents and child together.

Play therapy can be helpful in treating these issues, among others:

  • behaviour challenges

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • attention disorders (ADHD)

  • trauma

  • grief and loss

  • learning problems

  • social struggles

  • family disruption and divorce

  • parenting-child conflict
